Start with real content instead of placeholders. A distinctive product story tends to produce a more distinctive layout. Also tell it which patterns to avoid using your own reference as the guide.

Break the reference into specific decisions: type scale, spacing, column widths, color roles, and border styles. Ask for the structure first, then apply the visual direction. “An editorial layout with a serif headline, asymmetric grid, and one accent color” gives it far more to work with than “make it modern.”
